Russia’s Trade with India

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with India totaled $2,265,862,529, up 3.01% ($66,205,472) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to India in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $1,290,974,567, down 6.25% ($86,008,031) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from India in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $974,887,962, up 18.50% ($152,213,503) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with India in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $316,086,605, a 42.98% decrease ($238,221,534) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

India was Russia’s 16th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 17th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 1.5941% of Russia’s total trade (up from 1.3973% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

India was Russia’s 16th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 19th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 1.4508% of Russia’s total exports (up from 1.3192% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

India was Russia’s 12th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 15th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 1.8339% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.5509% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to India

The major share of Russian exports to India in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 30.98% of Russia’s total exports to India (26.66% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 15.79% of Russia’s total exports to India (11.83% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.17% of Russia’s total exports to India (19.71% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 14.45% of Russia’s total exports to India (12.28% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.47% of Russia’s total exports to India (1.79% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.81% of Russia’s total exports to India (5.02% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $41,241,335;

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $27,701,910;

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $14,912,587;
