Russia’s Trade with Indonesia

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Indonesia totaled $597,134,786, up 8.07% ($44,583,219) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $171,676,706, up 13.15% ($19,954,730) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $425,458,080, up 6.14% ($24,628,489) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $253,781,374, a 1.88% increase ($4,673,759) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Indonesia was Russia’s 43rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 47th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.4201% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3510% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Indonesia was Russia’s 62nd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 65th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1929% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1454% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Indonesia was Russia’s 28th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 27th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.8004% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.7557% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Indonesia

The major share of Russian exports to Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 39.64% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (12.30% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 30.78% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (34.21% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.01% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (24.18% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.52% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (13.95% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.27% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (2.49% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.01% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (12.33% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $50,470,272;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $4,259,826;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $738,396;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $648,727;
  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - an increase of $621,167.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $23,150,852;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $19,559,722;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $15,138,576;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $3,327,357;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $2,802,486;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $1,647,267;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $1,593,298;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $1,576,130.

Russia’s Imports from Indonesia

The major share of Russian imports from Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 54.58% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (46.62% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 14.53% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (12.68% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 10.85% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (12.88% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.97% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (18.26% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.22% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (1.81% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
