Russia’s Trade with Iraq

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Iraq was $23,300,959, down 30.02% ($9,993,699) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $23,230,266, down 30.20% ($10,050,692) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $70,693, up 416.01% ($56,993) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $23,159,573, a 30.38% decrease ($10,107,685) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Iraq was Russia’s 112th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 108th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0164% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0211% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Iraq was Russia’s 95th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 93rd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0261% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0319% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Iraq was Russia’s 154th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 167th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0001% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0000% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Iraq

The major share of Russian exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 33.27% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (15.35% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 22.51% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (29.00% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 18.92% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (23.87% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 18.31% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (6.00% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.49% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (15.67% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $2,519,472;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $1,439,905;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $1,288,042;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $779,821;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $527,189;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $320,452;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $176,190;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $162,047;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $148,246;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $106,181;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $100,561;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $99,999;
  • Impregnated, coated, covered or laminated textile fabrics; textile articles of a kind suitable for industrial use (HS code 59) - an increase of $98,282;
  • Albuminoidal substances; modified starches; glues; enzymes (HS code 35) - an increase of $76,907.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $4,697,598;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $4,134,005;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $3,840,827;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $2,376,695;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $656,922;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $490,696;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $288,777;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $282,904;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $219,973;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - a decrease of $191,025;
