Russia’s Trade with Kenya

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Kenya was $34,359,084, down 0.90% ($310,486) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $14,717,838, up 100.41% ($7,373,847) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $19,641,246, down 28.12% ($7,684,333) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $4,923,408, a 75.36% decrease ($15,058,180) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Kenya was Russia’s 104th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 107th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0242% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0220% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Kenya was Russia’s 105th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 125th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0165% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0070% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Kenya was Russia’s 87th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 82nd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0369% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0515% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 54.09% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (0.56% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 29.64% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (62.66% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.38% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (6.51% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.16% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (5.07% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $143,695;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $122,643;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $81,355;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $71,397.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,454,521;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $318,940;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $61,115.
