Russia’s Trade with Malta

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Malta was $923,326,792, down 0.85% ($7,878,528) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Malta in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $921,963,818, down 0.71% ($6,612,960) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Malta in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $1,362,974, down 48.15% ($1,265,568) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Malta in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $920,600,844, a 0.58% decrease ($5,347,392) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Malta was Russia’s 32nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 34th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.6496% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.5915% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Malta was Russia’s 23rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 28th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 1.0361% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.8896% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Malta was Russia’s 125th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 112th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0026% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0050% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Malta

The major share of Russian exports to Malta in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 98.73% of Russia’s total exports to Malta (98.47% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.10% of Russia’s total exports to Malta (0.02% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.08% of Russia’s total exports to Malta (1.48% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Malta in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

Russia’s Imports from Malta

The major share of Russian imports from Malta in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 67.68% of Russia’s total imports from Malta (23.32% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.09% of Russia’s total imports from Malta (72.60% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 14.68% of Russia’s total imports from Malta (0.24% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.08% of Russia’s total imports from Malta (1.23% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - a decrease of $25,020;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $12,925;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $8,698.
