Russia’s Trade with Mexico

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Mexico was $540,522,936, down 18.32% ($121,199,877) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $326,345,816, down 27.86% ($126,052,948) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $214,177,120, up 2.32% ($4,853,071) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $112,168,696, a 53.85% decrease ($130,906,019) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Mexico was Russia’s 45th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 41st in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3803% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4203% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Mexico was Russia’s 45th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 39th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3668% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.4334% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Mexico was Russia’s 41st largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 39th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.4029% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3946% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Mexico

The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 69.80% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (74.67% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.07% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (8.63% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.12% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (0.59% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.98% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (11.22% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.21% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.92% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $28,625,000;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $8,481,454;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $4,272,690.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $107,215,566;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $41,831,812;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $6,825,328;

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 19.53% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (9.91% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 13.74% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (10.05% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
