Russia’s Trade with Nicaragua

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Nicaragua totaled $16,943,265, up 25.22% ($3,412,232) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $12,763,681, up 10.74% ($1,237,634) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $4,179,584, up 108.46% ($2,174,598) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $8,584,097, a 9.84% decrease ($936,964) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Nicaragua was Russia’s 119th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 128th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0119% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0086% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 110th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 113th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0143% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0110% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 107th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 116th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0079% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0038% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Nicaragua

The major share of Russian exports to Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 60.45% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (68.14% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 38.81% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (27.76% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.00% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (4.05% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,785,744;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $732,166;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $54,997.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $818,497;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $466,795;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $138,226.

Russia’s Imports from Nicaragua

The major share of Russian imports from Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 90.12% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (91.64% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.17% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 2.93% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (7.83% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - a decrease of $88,757;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - a decrease of $17,918;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $12,608.
