Russia’s Trade with Qatar

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Qatar totaled $28,990,262, up 55.96% ($10,401,678) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $18,366,530, up 93.11% ($8,855,650) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $10,623,732, up 17.03% ($1,546,028) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $7,742,798, a 1,687.45% increase ($7,309,622) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Qatar was Russia’s 108th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 121st in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0204% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0118% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Qatar was Russia’s 101st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 117th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0206% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0091% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Qatar was Russia’s 94th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 95th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0200% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0171% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Qatar

The major share of Russian exports to Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 73.65% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (65.25% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.80% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (14.19% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.92% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (5.05% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.43% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (4.67% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.21% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (2.81% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.14% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (4.48% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $7,083,482;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $804,640;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $424,002;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $327,517;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $226,890;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $203,677;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $199,573;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $146,579;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $142,473;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $70,000.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $204,989;
  • Dairy produce; birds eggs; natural honey; edible products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 04) - a decrease of $185,745;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $142,134;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $133,169;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $100,468;
  • Works of art, collectors’ pieces and antiques (HS code 97) - a decrease of $65,488.

Russia’s Imports from Qatar

The major share of Russian imports from Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 72.02% of Russia’s total imports from Qatar (72.66% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 27.98% of Russia’s total imports from Qatar (27.34% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Qatar in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $1,055,606;
