Russia’s Trade with Turkmenistan

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Turkmenistan totaled $264,709,006, up 180.11% ($170,208,250) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Turkmenistan in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $226,208,647, up 275.01% ($165,888,051) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Turkmenistan in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $38,500,359, up 12.64% ($4,320,199) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Turkmenistan in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $187,708,288, a 618.08% increase ($161,567,852) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 63rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 81st in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1862% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0600% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 54th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 80th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2542% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0578% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 77th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 78th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0724% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0644% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Turkmenistan

The major share of Russian exports to Turkmenistan in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 62.20% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (20.19% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.69% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (20.03% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 10.41% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (18.48% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.33% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (28.16% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $3,071,227;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $2,585,801;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,087,067;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Turkmenistan in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:
