Russia’s Trade with Zimbabwe

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Zimbabwe was $7,916,851, down 20.63% ($2,057,975) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $29,260, down 98.08% ($1,495,169) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $7,887,591, down 6.66% ($562,806) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $7,858,331, a 13.46% increase ($932,363) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 136th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 135th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0056% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0063% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 179th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 147th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0000% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0015% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 98th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 96th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0148% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0159% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Zimbabwe

The major share of Russian exports to Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 79.12% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 20.88% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (0.42% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.00% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (99.58% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $23,151;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,679.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,517,958;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,652;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $389.

Russia’s Imports from Zimbabwe

The major share of Russian imports from Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.59% of Russia’s total imports from Zimbabwe (98.04% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 0.00% of Russia’s total imports from Zimbabwe (1.54% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $396,068;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $132,149.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $949,291;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - a decrease of $129,844.
