Russia’s Trade with Australia

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Australia was $202,664,118, down 0.19% ($387,810) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Australia in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $31,771,658, down 0.54% ($172,329) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Australia in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $170,892,460, down 0.13% ($215,481) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Australia in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $139,120,802, a 0.03% decrease ($43,152) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Australia was Russia’s 69th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1661% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1268% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Australia was Russia’s 89th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 93rd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0454% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0317% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The major share of Russian exports to Australia in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 20.90% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (14.97% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 11.23% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (31.68% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 8.80% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (1.66% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.65% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (4.97% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $636,289;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $275,921;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $274,137;

  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $188,170;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $167,463;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $149,113;
