Russia’s Trade with Bangladesh
In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Bangladesh was $314,476,388, down 22.37% ($90,632,407) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.
Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2020 totaled $171,052,923, up 13.53% ($20,390,635) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.
Russia’s imports from Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $143,423,465, down 43.63% ($111,023,042) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.
Russia’s trade balance with Bangladesh went from a deficit of $103,784,219 in the 2nd quarter of 2019, to a surplus of $27,629,458 in the 2nd quarter of 2020.
Bangladesh was Russia’s 59th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 55th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2578% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2531% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).
Bangladesh was Russia’s 57th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 64th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2446% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1495% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).
Bangladesh was Russia’s 49th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 40th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2753% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4289% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).
Russia’s Exports to Bangladesh
The major share of Russian exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 33.45% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (58.41% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 30.65% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (12.40% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.71% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (18.12% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.59% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (1.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.98% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (6.54% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.31% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (2.02% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

- Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $10,542,446;
- Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $6,224,112;
- Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $2,941,374;
- Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $1,902,401;
- Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $797,876;
- Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $763,932;
- Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $723,025;
- Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $611,194;
- Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $579,956.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

- Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $8,036,901;
- Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $2,273,439;
- Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,180,839;
- Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $627,766;
- Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $562,469.
