Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Brazil was $947,948,873, down 19.11% ($223,959,353) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $444,208,652, down 22.48% ($128,816,302) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $503,740,221, down 15.89% ($95,143,051) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $59,531,569, a 130.22% increase ($33,673,251) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Brazil was Russia’s 26th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 32nd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.7770% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.7320% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Brazil was Russia’s 30th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 38th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.6353% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.5687% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Brazil was Russia’s 24th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 21st in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.9671% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.0095% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 80.85% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (78.65% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 13.68% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (15.26% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.10% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.98% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.83% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (3.01% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $9,302,216;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $1,880,521.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $21,515,742;

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $6,096,975;
