Russia’s Trade with China

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with China was $23,487,110,036, down 6.26% ($1,567,191,234) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to China in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $10,662,745,485, down 17.65% ($2,284,582,330) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from China in the 2nd quarter of 2020 totaled $12,824,364,551, up 5.93% ($717,391,096) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade balance with China went from a surplus of $840,354,360 in the 2nd quarter of 2019, to a deficit of $2,161,619,066 in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

China was Russia’s largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 19.2507% of Russia’s total trade (up from 15.6503% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

China was Russia’s largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 15.2503% of Russia’s total exports (up from 12.8492% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

China was Russia’s largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 24.6205% of Russia’s total imports (up from 20.4082% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to China

The major share of Russian exports to China in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 59.27% of Russia’s total exports to China (70.34% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 11.25% of Russia’s total exports to China (9.19% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 8.31% of Russia’s total exports to China (5.43% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.00% of Russia’s total exports to China (2.42% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.14% of Russia’s total exports to China (8.42% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.57% of Russia’s total exports to China (2.71% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $104,202,456;
