Russia’s Trade with Ghana

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Ghana totaled $55,023,748, up 29.93% ($12,675,191) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2020 totaled $34,502,699, up 40.58% ($9,959,432) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2020 totaled $20,521,049, up 15.25% ($2,715,759) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $13,981,650, a 107.51% increase ($7,243,673) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Ghana was Russia’s 93rd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 99th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0451% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0265% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Ghana was Russia’s 86th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 98th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0493% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0244% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Ghana was Russia’s 85th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 88th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0394% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0300% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Ghana

The major share of Russian exports to Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 49.70% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (45.30% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 32.87% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (8.92% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 13.88% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (16.15% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.98% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (4.15% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.49% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (0.92% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.00% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (24.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $7,621,591;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $4,842,692;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $1,489,269;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $854,111;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $820,011;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $325,911;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $135,660.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $6,003,564;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $335,555.

Russia’s Imports from Ghana

The major share of Russian imports from Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.65% of Russia’s total imports from Ghana (99.70% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $2,406,772;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $129,974;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $98,960.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:
