Russia’s Trade with Hungary

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Hungary was $967,817,287, down 39.18% ($623,559,536) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $443,875,479, down 58.01% ($613,273,392) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Hungary in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $523,941,808, down 1.93% ($10,286,144) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade balance with Hungary went from a surplus of $522,920,919 in the 2nd quarter of 2019, to a deficit of $80,066,329 in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Hungary was Russia’s 24th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 21st in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.7932% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.9941% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Hungary was Russia’s 31st largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 23rd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.6348% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.0491% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Hungary was Russia’s 22nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 26th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 1.0059% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.9005% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Hungary

The major share of Russian exports to Hungary in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 90.57% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (91.63% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.58% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (6.40% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.15% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (0.51% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.08% of Russia’s total exports to Hungary (0.56% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $15,509,221;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $1,751,966.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Hungary in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $582,248,205;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $28,471,662;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $11,951,527;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $4,373,490;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $1,460,165.

Russia’s Imports from Hungary

The major share of Russian imports from Hungary in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 47.57% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (45.73% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 33.80% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (29.62% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.83% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (9.27% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.15% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (3.51% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.11% of Russia’s total imports from Hungary (1.20% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);

  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $2,766,263;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $2,480,337;
