Russia’s Trade with Japan

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Japan was $3,851,803,829, down 26.92% ($1,418,896,951) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $2,217,891,013, down 24.59% ($723,317,889) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $1,633,912,816, down 29.86% ($695,579,062) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $583,978,197, a 4.53% decrease ($27,738,827) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Japan was Russia’s 11th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 9th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 3.1570% of Russia’s total trade (down from 3.2924% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Japan was Russia’s 9th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 10th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 3.1721% of Russia’s total exports (up from 2.9189% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Japan was Russia’s 7th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 6th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 3.1368% of Russia’s total imports (down from 3.9267% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Japan

The major share of Russian exports to Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 72.99% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (73.94% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 12.71% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (7.74% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.58% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (8.34% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.93% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (4.75% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
