Russia’s Trade with Kazakhstan

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Kazakhstan was $4,208,599,587, down 13.15% ($637,461,636) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Kazakhstan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $3,159,926,367, down 7.47% ($255,117,974) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Kazakhstan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $1,048,673,220, down 26.72% ($382,343,662) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Kazakhstan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $2,111,253,147, a 6.41% increase ($127,225,688) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Kazakhstan was Russia’s 8th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 10th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 3.4495% of Russia’s total trade (up from 3.0271% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Kazakhstan was Russia’s 5th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 9th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 4.5194% of Russia’s total exports (up from 3.3892% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Kazakhstan was Russia’s 9th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 2.0133% of Russia’s total imports (down from 2.4122% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Kazakhstan

The major share of Russian exports to Kazakhstan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 23.41% of Russia’s total exports to Kazakhstan (26.55% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.92% of Russia’s total exports to Kazakhstan (16.68% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 15.58% of Russia’s total exports to Kazakhstan (12.79% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 14.81% of Russia’s total exports to Kazakhstan (18.26% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
