Russia’s Trade with Nicaragua

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Nicaragua was $9,963,540, down 46.73% ($8,741,714) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $5,150,018, down 63.46% ($8,944,790) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2020 totaled $4,813,522, up 4.40% ($203,076) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $336,496, a 96.45% decrease ($9,147,866) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Nicaragua was Russia’s 127th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 122nd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0082% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0117% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 125th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 112th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0074% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0140% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 109th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 113th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0092% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0078% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Nicaragua

The major share of Russian exports to Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 64.08% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (49.59% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 26.77% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (35.00% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 8.53% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (2.07% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.25% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (13.05% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $148,002;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $16,949.

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $664,795;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $661,921;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $559,041;
  • Miscellaneous articles of base metal (HS code 83) - a decrease of $23,156.

Russia’s Imports from Nicaragua

The major share of Russian imports from Nicaragua in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 91.91% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (97.43% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.80% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (0.06% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.73% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (0.82% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $832,511;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $37,656;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $27,670;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - a decrease of $17,820.
