Russia’s Trade with Pakistan

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Pakistan was $106,963,292, down 17.10% ($22,066,336) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 totaled $61,084,769, up 51.07% ($20,651,233) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Pakistan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $45,878,523, down 48.22% ($42,717,569) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade balance with Pakistan went from a deficit of $48,162,556 in the 2nd quarter of 2019, to a surplus of $15,206,246 in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Pakistan was Russia’s 76th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 77th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0877% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0806% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Pakistan was Russia’s 76th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 88th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0874% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0401% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Pakistan was Russia’s 74th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 65th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0881% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1493% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Pakistan

The major share of Russian exports to Pakistan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 44.54% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (59.19% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 43.72% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (1.11% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.50% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (16.74% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.80% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (12.95% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.15% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (5.58% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.29% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (2.08% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $26,620,665;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $2,465,225;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $974,272;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $600,005.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $3,859,239;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $2,782,729;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,399,551;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $516,027;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $362,217;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $352,342;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $329,529;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $218,842.

Russia’s Imports from Pakistan

The major share of Russian imports from Pakistan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 62.13% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (55.10% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 19.93% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (30.60% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.43% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (3.39% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.91% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (2.12% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.72% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (1.18% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Pakistan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cotton (HS code 52) - an increase of $1,157,507;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,088,299;
  • Footwear, gaiters and the like; parts of such articles (HS code 64) - an increase of $293,302.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Pakistan in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:
