Russia’s Trade with Portugal

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Portugal was $159,232,277, down 64.24% ($286,039,324) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $51,623,500, down 84.11% ($273,325,277) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $107,608,777, down 10.57% ($12,714,047) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade balance with Portugal went from a surplus of $204,625,953 in the 2nd quarter of 2019, to a deficit of $55,985,277 in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Portugal was Russia’s 72nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 52nd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1305% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2781% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Portugal was Russia’s 79th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 47th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0738% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.3225% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Portugal was Russia’s 56th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 58th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2066% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.2028% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Portugal

The major share of Russian exports to Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 59.98% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (90.45% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 19.12% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (4.94% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.62% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (1.74% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.85% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (2.02% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.45% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (0.51% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - an increase of $327,535;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $312,082;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $229,474.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $262,929,242;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $6,155,312;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $3,421,764;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $867,076;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $591,856;
  • Raw hides and skins (other than furskins) and leather (HS code 41) - a decrease of $376,474;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $269,858;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $222,256.

Russia’s Imports from Portugal

The major share of Russian imports from Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 17.85% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (14.15% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.12% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (16.64% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 14.49% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (23.04% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 10.95% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (11.71% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
