Russia’s Trade with Qatar

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Qatar totaled $27,989,210, up 60.09% ($10,505,315) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 2nd quarter of 2020 totaled $22,152,257, up 144.25% ($13,082,832) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Qatar in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $5,836,953, down 30.63% ($2,577,517) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Qatar in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $16,315,304, a 2,391.06% increase ($15,660,349) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Qatar was Russia’s 108th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 124th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0229% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0109% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Qatar was Russia’s 98th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (up from 121st in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0317% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0090% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Qatar was Russia’s 103rd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 98th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0112% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0142% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Qatar

The major share of Russian exports to Qatar in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 59.83% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (12.59% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 28.17% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (64.65% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.94% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (3.95% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.71% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (4.25% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.42% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (3.85% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.13% of Russia’s total exports to Qatar (6.49% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $12,172,976;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $704,839;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $466,443;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $437,618;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $247,427;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $111,688;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $83,759;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $75,540;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $66,967.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Qatar in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $398,937;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $175,646;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $168,524;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $151,953;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $124,191;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $84,600;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $82,941;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $66,947.
