Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka was $62,842,693, down 44.90% ($51,210,053) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $17,276,626, down 52.40% ($19,017,437) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $45,566,067, down 41.40% ($32,192,616) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2020 was $28,289,441, a 31.77% decrease ($13,175,179) over the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 89th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 82nd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0515% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0712% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 105th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 90th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0247% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0360% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 75th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 66th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0875% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1311% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 72.47% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (33.39% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.35% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (10.68% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.90% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (7.86% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 7.67% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (32.36% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.31% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (14.96% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $634,974;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $495,647;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $122,619.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $9,554,044;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $5,194,978;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $2,197,210;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,495,383;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $864,909;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $586,673;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $227,101;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $106,592;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $97,714.

Russia’s Imports from Sri Lanka

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 23.67% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (43.64% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.95% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (5.35% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
