Russia’s Trade with Sweden

In the 2nd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Sweden was $709,857,631, down 40.18% ($476,707,590) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $297,291,570, down 50.35% ($301,524,756) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2020 were $412,566,061, down 29.81% ($175,182,834) from the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade balance with Sweden went from a surplus of $11,067,431 in the 2nd quarter of 2019, to a deficit of $115,274,491 in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Sweden was Russia’s 31st largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.5818% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.7412% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Sweden was Russia’s 46th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 36th in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.4252% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.5943% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Sweden was Russia’s 26th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (down from 22nd in the 2nd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.7921% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.9907% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Sweden

The major share of Russian exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2020 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 68.21% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (72.02% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.43% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (18.82% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.88% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.58% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.12% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.76% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.65% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (1.61% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.46% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (1.18% in the 2nd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $2,097,722;
  • Other made up textile articles; sets; worn clothing and worn textile articles; rags (HS code 63) - an increase of $1,067,875;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $893,537.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2020 over the 2nd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $228,335,577;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $35,896,378;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $23,459,382;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $7,591,592;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $4,357,073;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $3,137,025;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - a decrease of $2,055,131;

Russia’s Imports from Sweden

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 9.88% of Russia’s total imports from Sweden (9.44% in the 2nd quarter of 2019);
