Russia’s Trade with Abkhazia

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Abkhazia was $63,765,685, down 27.18% ($23,803,282) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Abkhazia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $47,470,255, down 31.08% ($21,404,492) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Abkhazia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $16,295,430, down 12.83% ($2,398,790) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Abkhazia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $31,174,825, a 37.87% decrease ($19,005,702) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Abkhazia was Russia’s 92nd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 88th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0467% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0528% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Abkhazia was Russia’s 78th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 84th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0604% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0667% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Abkhazia was Russia’s 94th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 89th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0281% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0299% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Abkhazia

The major share of Russian exports to Abkhazia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 31.55% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (27.31% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 19.72% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (34.56% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 14.61% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (10.08% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 12.16% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (8.96% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.96% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (5.66% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);

  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $433,951;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $334,369;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $284,258;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $280,031;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $163,961.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Abkhazia in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:
