Russia’s Trade with China

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with China was $25,904,808,406, down 7.32% ($2,046,655,548) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to China in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $11,250,667,290, down 16.66% ($2,249,303,376) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from China in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $14,654,141,116, up 1.40% ($202,647,828) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with China in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $3,403,473,826, a 257.69% increase ($2,451,951,204) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

China was Russia’s largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 18.9679% of Russia’s total trade (up from 16.8513% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

China was Russia’s largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 14.3041% of Russia’s total exports (up from 13.0658% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

China was Russia’s largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 25.3014% of Russia’s total imports (up from 23.1045% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to China

The major share of Russian exports to China in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 63.31% of Russia’s total exports to China (71.32% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 10.10% of Russia’s total exports to China (7.71% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.85% of Russia’s total exports to China (6.22% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.23% of Russia’s total exports to China (2.47% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.73% of Russia’s total exports to China (3.48% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.73% of Russia’s total exports to China (5.16% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).
