Russia’s Trade with Ghana

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Ghana was $59,060,846, down 15.61% ($10,922,458) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $36,998,857, down 25.25% ($12,496,540) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $22,061,989, up 7.68% ($1,574,082) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ghana in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $14,936,868, a 48.51% decrease ($14,070,622) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Ghana was Russia’s 93rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 95th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0432% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0422% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Ghana was Russia’s 91st largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 90th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0470% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0479% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Ghana was Russia’s 85th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 87th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0381% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0328% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Ghana

The major share of Russian exports to Ghana in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 69.29% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (40.81% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.57% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (19.63% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.69% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (2.13% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.18% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (0.22% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $17,765,811;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $3,465,438;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $181,899;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $120,707.
