Russia’s Trade with Kenya

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Kenya totaled $99,134,177, up 8.65% ($7,893,727) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $76,675,702, up 5.72% ($4,150,392) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $22,458,475, up 20.00% ($3,743,335) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $54,217,227, a 0.76% increase ($407,057) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Kenya was Russia’s 81st largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 85th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0726% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0550% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Kenya was Russia’s 73rd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 82nd in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0975% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0702% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Kenya was Russia’s 83rd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 88th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0388% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0299% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 64.23% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (80.78% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 18.94% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (6.29% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.74% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (3.41% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.95% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (6.67% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $5,693,142;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $944,815;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $530,068.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $8,927,074;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,936,014;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $924,789;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $305,907.

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $2,822,964.
