Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Nigeria was $148,813,386, down 6.63% ($10,560,467) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $142,997,477, down 0.66% ($952,102) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $5,815,909, down 62.29% ($9,608,365) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $137,181,568, a 6.74% increase ($8,656,263) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Nigeria was Russia’s 75th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 74th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1090% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0961% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Nigeria was Russia’s 63rd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 66th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1818% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1393% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Nigeria was Russia’s 107th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 92nd in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0100% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0247% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 75.12% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (66.31% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 14.52% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (13.66% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.09% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (5.08% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.61% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (13.70% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $11,910,685;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $6,338,949;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,188,612;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $433,594.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $14,566,540;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $5,146,238;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $588,888.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 90.96% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (99.85% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.09% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (0.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $470,628;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $210,635;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $44,922;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $31,853.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $1,310,154;
