Russia’s Trade with Pakistan

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Pakistan totaled $126,478,464, up 28.42% ($27,987,160) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $65,024,233, up 131.60% ($36,948,681) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $61,454,231, down 12.73% ($8,961,521) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade balance with Pakistan went from a deficit of $42,340,200 in the 3rd quarter of 2019, to a surplus of $3,570,002 in the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Pakistan was Russia’s 76th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 84th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0926% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0594% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Pakistan was Russia’s 76th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 104th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0827% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0272% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Pakistan was Russia’s 65th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1061% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1126% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Pakistan

The major share of Russian exports to Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 71.81% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (58.47% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.77% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (17.78% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.40% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (2.84% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 5.71% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (15.34% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.03% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (3.25% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $12,406,991;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $2,300,000;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,870,173;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $1,018,876;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $544,622;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $310,834;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $309,911;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $287,760.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $421,706;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $400,336.

Russia’s Imports from Pakistan

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.05% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (5.12% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.84% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (2.18% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
