Russia’s Trade with Tajikistan

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Tajikistan was $191,461,022, down 22.85% ($56,694,707) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $183,170,092, down 23.54% ($56,385,175) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $8,290,930, down 3.60% ($309,532) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $174,879,162, a 24.28% decrease ($56,075,643) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Tajikistan was Russia’s 69th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 68th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1402% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1496% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 54th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 56th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2329% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2319% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 100th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 98th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0143% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0138% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Tajikistan

The major share of Russian exports to Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 23.13% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (21.30% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 22.36% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (41.47% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 15.02% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (10.18% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.46% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (4.85% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.84% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (13.68% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.71% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (4.38% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.71% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (1.95% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $2,810,628;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $1,708,147;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $975,466;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $914,905;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $650,657;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $634,623;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $581,285.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $58,334,762;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $14,955,511;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $4,080,792;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - a decrease of $2,013,888;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,503,873;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $1,240,067;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $1,214,619;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $965,134;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $963,398;

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.21% of Russia’s total imports from Tajikistan (12.40% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).
