Russia’s Trade with Tanzania

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Tanzania was $53,400,951, down 20.07% ($13,410,715) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $44,616,117, down 24.53% ($14,505,031) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $8,784,834, up 14.23% ($1,094,316) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $35,831,283, a 30.33% decrease ($15,599,347) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Tanzania was Russia’s 98th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 97th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0391% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0403% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Tanzania was Russia’s 82nd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 88th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0567% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0572% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Tanzania was Russia’s 98th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 100th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0152% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0123% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Tanzania

The major share of Russian exports to Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 90.58% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (86.63% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.76% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (6.86% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.18% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (4.31% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.75% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (0.02% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.70% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (1.89% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $1,092,849;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $742,044;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $160,316.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $11,861,327;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $2,093,079;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,564,781;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $435,116;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $270,425;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $145,000.

Russia’s Imports from Tanzania

The major share of Russian imports from Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 100.00% of Russia’s total imports from Tanzania (99.94% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $859,256;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $709,030;
