Russia’s Trade with Ukraine

In the 3rd quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Ukraine totaled $2,499,123,096, up 0.75% ($18,564,220) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Ukraine in the 3rd quarter of 2020 totaled $1,542,748,985, up 22.48% ($283,174,730) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Ukraine in the 3rd quarter of 2020 were $956,374,111, down 21.67% ($264,610,510) from the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ukraine in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was $586,374,874, a 1,419.51% increase ($547,785,240) over the 3rd quarter of 2019.

Ukraine was Russia’s 14th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 16th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 1.8299% of Russia’s total trade (up from 1.4955% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Ukraine was Russia’s 14th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (up from 16th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 1.9614% of Russia’s total exports (up from 1.2191% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Ukraine was Russia’s 14th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (down from 12th in the 3rd quarter of 2019), accounting for 1.6512% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.9521% in the 3rd quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Ukraine

The major share of Russian exports to Ukraine in the 3rd quarter of 2020 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 36.97% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (12.31% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 18.16% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (25.59% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.20% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (23.62% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 12.19% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (14.63% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.77% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (11.45% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.28% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (4.86% in the 3rd quarter of 2019);

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ukraine in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $495,475,434;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $6,770,272;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $6,672,340.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ukraine in the 3rd quarter of 2020 over the 3rd quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $35,950,005;
