Russia’s Trade with China

In the 4th quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with China was $28,987,381,274, down 6.62% ($2,055,543,098) from the 4th quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to China in the 4th quarter of 2020 were $13,180,028,623, down 15.52% ($2,420,648,538) from the 4th quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from China in the 4th quarter of 2020 totaled $15,807,352,651, up 2.36% ($365,105,440) from the 4th quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade balance with China went from a surplus of $158,429,950 in the 4th quarter of 2019, to a deficit of $2,627,324,028 in the 4th quarter of 2020.

China was Russia’s largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2020 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2019), accounting for 17.8870% of Russia’s total trade (up from 17.2587% in the 4th quarter of 2019).

China was Russia’s largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2020 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2019), accounting for 13.9580% of Russia’s total exports (up from 13.9490% in the 4th quarter of 2019).

China was Russia’s largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2020 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2019), accounting for 23.3725% of Russia’s total imports (up from 22.7000% in the 4th quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to China

The major share of Russian exports to China in the 4th quarter of 2020 (and in the 4th quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 59.04% of Russia’s total exports to China (70.30% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 9.47% of Russia’s total exports to China (3.72% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.18% of Russia’s total exports to China (6.18% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.06% of Russia’s total exports to China (6.96% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.50% of Russia’s total exports to China (5.18% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
