Russia’s Trade with Costa Rica

In the 4th quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Costa Rica totaled $40,288,127, up 5.45% ($2,080,604) from the 4th quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2020 were $1,653,854, down 49.26% ($1,605,342) from the 4th quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2020 totaled $38,634,273, up 10.55% ($3,685,946) from the 4th quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2020 was $36,980,419, a 16.70% increase ($5,291,288) over the 4th quarter of 2019.

Costa Rica was Russia’s 108th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2020 (down from 107th in the 4th quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0249% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0212% in the 4th quarter of 2019).

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2020 over the 4th quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $2,066,307;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $150,179;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $141,883;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $73,567;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $36,108;

Russia’s Imports from Costa Rica

The major share of Russian imports from Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2020 (and in the 4th quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 75.21% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (72.85% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 22.24% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (24.62% in the 4th quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2020 over the 4th quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:
