Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 4th quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Nigeria was $119,427,904, down 0.72% ($867,246) from the 4th quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2020 totaled $110,538,784, up 10.46% ($10,465,387) from the 4th quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2020 were $8,889,120, down 56.04% ($11,332,633) from the 4th quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2020 was $101,649,664, a 27.30% increase ($21,798,020) over the 4th quarter of 2019.

Nigeria was Russia’s 84th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2020 (down from 81st in the 4th quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0737% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0669% in the 4th quarter of 2019).

Nigeria was Russia’s 71st largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2020 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1171% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0895% in the 4th quarter of 2019).

Nigeria was Russia’s 103rd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2020 (down from 89th in the 4th quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0131% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0297% in the 4th quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2020 (and in the 4th quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 62.76% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (58.47% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.42% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (6.64% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.84% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (16.82% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.70% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (13.99% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.27% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (2.67% in the 4th quarter of 2019);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.11% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.13% in the 4th quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2020 over the 4th quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $4,969,926;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $4,030,250;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $3,760,036;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $3,249,908;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $820,130.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2020 over the 4th quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $10,622,213;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $9,904,928;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $2,298,264;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $1,005,989.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2020 over the 4th quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $127,681;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $36,949.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2020 over the 4th quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:
