Russia’s Trade with Japan

In 2020, Russia’s trade with Japan was $16,168,875,669, down 20.40% ($4,144,465,123) from 2019.

Russia’s exports to Japan in 2020 were $9,055,118,990, down 20.24% ($2,297,914,498) from 2019.

Russia’s imports from Japan in 2020 were $7,113,756,679, down 20.61% ($1,846,550,625) from 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Japan in 2020 was $1,941,362,311, a 18.86% decrease ($451,363,873) over 2019.

Japan was Russia’s 11th largest trading partner in 2020 (down from 9th in 2019), accounting for 2.8475% of Russia’s total trade (down from 3.0475% in 2019).

Japan was Russia’s 12th largest export market in 2020 (just as in 2019), accounting for 2.6918% of Russia’s total exports (up from 2.6853% in 2019).

Japan was Russia’s 8th largest supplier in 2020 (down from 6th in 2019), accounting for 3.0738% of Russia’s total imports (down from 3.6756% in 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Japan

The major share of Russian exports to Japan in 2020 (and in 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 12.05% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (7.80% in 2019);
