Russia’s Trade with Chile

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Chile was $189,790,560, down 21.70% ($52,589,460) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2021 were $13,702,047, down 9.68% ($1,468,410) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Chile in the 1st quarter of 2021 were $176,088,513, down 22.50% ($51,121,050) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $162,386,466, a 23.42% decrease ($49,652,640) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Chile was Russia’s 68th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 66th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.1228% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1705% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Chile was Russia’s 116th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 103rd in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0149% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0170% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Chile was Russia’s 44th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 39th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.2827% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4274% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 38.19% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (40.15% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 20.21% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (5.94% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 19.57% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (37.32% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.57% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (3.56% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.80% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (6.71% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.99% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (3.78% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.18% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (0.55% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,475,891;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $594,392;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $379,796;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $375,712;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $319,173;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $318,967;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $227,803;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $209,760;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $198,016;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $144,892;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $85,499;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - an increase of $80,681;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $69,815.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $2,979,391;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,393,805;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $670,338;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $450,587;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $290,314;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $134,615;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $123,084;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $105,275;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $58,704.

Russia’s Imports from Chile

The major share of Russian imports from Chile in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 71.12% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (73.47% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 21.61% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (11.99% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.06% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (6.52% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.16% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (7.37% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $1,157,350;
