Russia’s Trade with Ecuador

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Ecuador totaled $470,242,894, up 6.67% ($29,386,841) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Ecuador in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $89,713,956, up 23.22% ($16,906,251) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Ecuador in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $380,528,938, up 3.39% ($12,480,590) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade deficit with Ecuador in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $290,814,982, a 1.50% decrease ($4,425,661) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Ecuador was Russia’s 52nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.3043% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3102% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Ecuador was Russia’s 80th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 75th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0972% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0818% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Ecuador was Russia’s 31st largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.6108% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.6924% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Ecuador

The major share of Russian exports to Ecuador in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 61.98% of Russia’s total exports to Ecuador (17.59% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 21.68% of Russia’s total exports to Ecuador (27.24% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 14.48% of Russia’s total exports to Ecuador (12.77% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.11% of Russia’s total exports to Ecuador (5.28% in the 1st quarter of 2020);

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $3,713,662;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $804,538;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $726,949;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $426,807;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $316,027.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ecuador in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $19,233,684;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $4,336,703;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $2,388,817;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $2,229,729;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,854,908;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,416,064;
  • Products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 05) - a decrease of $281,631.

Russia’s Imports from Ecuador

The major share of Russian imports from Ecuador in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.37% of Russia’s total imports from Ecuador (99.70% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Ecuador in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Live trees and other plants; bulbs, roots and the like; cut flowers and ornamental foliage (HS code 06) - an increase of $26,317,448;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $20,745,124;
