Russia’s Trade with Egypt

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Egypt totaled $1,127,969,005, up 7.67% ($80,365,710) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $920,808,419, up 6.22% ($53,900,926) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $207,160,586, up 14.65% ($26,464,784) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade surplus with Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $713,647,833, a 4.00% increase ($27,436,142) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Egypt was Russia’s 28th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.7298% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.7370% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Egypt was Russia’s 21st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 24th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.9981% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.9743% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Egypt was Russia’s 42nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 45th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.3325% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3399% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Egypt

The major share of Russian exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 65.24% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (55.78% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 15.29% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (9.95% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.64% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (1.41% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.22% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (7.11% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.76% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (12.95% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.52% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (1.96% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $112,521,057;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $51,381,903;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $30,623,839;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $15,099,764;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $8,801,690;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $6,800,000;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $5,830,078.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $51,461,740;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $26,123,518;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $5,745,020;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $4,921,917.

Russia’s Imports from Egypt

The major share of Russian imports from Egypt in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 89.51% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (87.24% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 3.71% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (3.86% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.76% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (3.20% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.36% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (3.73% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
