Russia’s Trade with Guatemala

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Guatemala totaled $15,367,734, up 17.43% ($2,281,531) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Guatemala in the 1st quarter of 2021 were $6,380,362, down 18.96% ($1,492,732) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Guatemala in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $8,987,372, up 72.40% ($3,774,263) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade balance with Guatemala went from a surplus of $2,659,985 in the 1st quarter of 2020, to a deficit of $2,607,010 in the 1st quarter of 2021.

Guatemala was Russia’s 126th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0099% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0092% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Guatemala was Russia’s 124th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 120th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0069% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0088% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Guatemala was Russia’s 101st largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 103rd in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0144% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0098% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The major share of Russian exports to Guatemala in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 35.83% of Russia’s total exports to Guatemala (16.16% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 30.22% of Russia’s total exports to Guatemala (58.02% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 24.18% of Russia’s total exports to Guatemala (14.47% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.55% of Russia’s total exports to Guatemala (0.85% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.72% of Russia’s total exports to Guatemala (9.63% in the 1st quarter of 2020);

  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $25,554;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Guatemala in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,639,503;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $628,131;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $593,422;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - a decrease of $39,213;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $27,790;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - a decrease of $27,250.

Russia’s Imports from Guatemala

The major share of Russian imports from Guatemala in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 94.92% of Russia’s total imports from Guatemala (96.06% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 5.00% of Russia’s total imports from Guatemala (3.85% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Guatemala in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $2,814,871;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $654,857;

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Guatemala in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - a decrease of $200,301;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $85,750;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $33,608.
