Russia’s Trade with Indonesia

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Indonesia totaled $702,343,210, up 17.62% ($105,208,424) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2021 were $161,005,231, down 6.22% ($10,671,475) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $541,337,979, up 27.24% ($115,879,899) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade deficit with Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $380,332,748, a 49.87% increase ($126,551,374) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Indonesia was Russia’s 38th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 43rd in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.4544% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.4201% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Indonesia was Russia’s 58th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 62nd in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.1745% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1929% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Indonesia was Russia’s 24th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 28th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.8689% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.8004% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Indonesia

The major share of Russian exports to Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 50.16% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (6.01% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 31.32% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (30.78% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 11.05% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (39.64% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.97% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (1.01% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.39% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (1.52% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.81% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (1.27% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $71,170,632;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $4,308,156;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $2,392,913;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $1,076,719;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $805,535;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $492,289.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $47,599,748;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $4,809,524;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $2,119,765;
  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - a decrease of $628,816;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $625,123.

Russia’s Imports from Indonesia

The major share of Russian imports from Indonesia in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 62.27% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (54.58% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 11.20% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (14.53% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.53% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (10.85% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.77% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (9.97% in the 1st quarter of 2020);

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $4,997,431;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $4,130,523;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $3,201,943;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - an increase of $2,222,819;
