Russia’s Trade with Iraq

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Iraq totaled $24,811,722, up 6.48% ($1,510,763) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $24,768,992, up 6.62% ($1,538,726) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2021 were $42,730, down 39.56% ($27,963) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade surplus with Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $24,726,262, a 6.76% increase ($1,566,689) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Iraq was Russia’s 117th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 112th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0161% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0164% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Iraq was Russia’s 99th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 95th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0268% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0261% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Iraq was Russia’s 156th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 154th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0001% of Russia’s total imports (just as in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Iraq

The major share of Russian exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 42.45% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (33.27% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 27.97% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (22.51% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 18.66% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (18.92% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 5.43% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (1.70% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.42% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (4.49% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.31% of Russia’s total exports to Iraq (18.31% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $4,555,138;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $2,756,220;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $1,576,879;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $946,331;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $731,681;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $347,831;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $160,581;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $100,014;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $91,673.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $2,965,044;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $2,099,648;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - a decrease of $1,249,041;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $881,900;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $768,004;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $715,501;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $212,371;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $189,810;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $182,413;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $148,071;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - a decrease of $106,181;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - a decrease of $89,422;
  • Impregnated, coated, covered or laminated textile fabrics; textile articles of a kind suitable for industrial use (HS code 59) - a decrease of $83,490;
  • Albuminoidal substances; modified starches; glues; enzymes (HS code 35) - a decrease of $76,907.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 92.36% of Russia’s total imports from Iraq (98.95% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.64% of Russia’s total imports from Iraq (1.05% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Iraq in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $3,263.
