Russia’s Trade with Kenya

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Kenya totaled $138,389,713, up 302.77% ($104,030,629) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $102,114,703, up 593.82% ($87,396,865) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $36,275,010, up 84.69% ($16,633,764) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade balance with Kenya went from a deficit of $4,923,408 in the 1st quarter of 2020, to a surplus of $65,839,693 in the 1st quarter of 2021.

Kenya was Russia’s 76th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 104th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0895% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0242% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Kenya was Russia’s 73rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 105th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.1107% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0165% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Kenya was Russia’s 79th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 87th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0582% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0369% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 41.69% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (54.09% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 36.74% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (2.45% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.01% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (9.38% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.03% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (4.16% in the 1st quarter of 2020);

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $33,765,065;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $13,491,034;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $2,980,004;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $2,503,902;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $702,696;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $423,182.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,808,130.
