Russia’s Trade with Mongolia

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Mongolia totaled $430,956,409, up 19.13% ($69,215,327) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $420,803,610, up 18.78% ($66,521,287) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $10,152,799, up 36.12% ($2,694,040) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $410,650,811, a 18.40% increase ($63,827,247) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Mongolia was Russia’s 53rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 55th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.2788% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2545% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Mongolia was Russia’s 38th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 43rd in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.4561% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3982% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Mongolia was Russia’s 97th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 100th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0163% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0140% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Mongolia

The major share of Russian exports to Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 55.44% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (61.23% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 25.42% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (16.95% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.42% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (11.19% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.88% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (5.96% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.63% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (1.90% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $1,354,581;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $1,322,000;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - an increase of $1,286,022.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $11,853,724;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $11,790,427;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - a decrease of $6,100,607;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - a decrease of $2,292,840;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $1,609,442.

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 8.79% of Russia’s total imports from Mongolia (5.74% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.30% of Russia’s total imports from Mongolia (17.96% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
