Russia’s Trade with Norway

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Norway totaled $281,169,920, up 12.55% ($31,345,528) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $190,546,853, up 7.62% ($13,485,433) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Norway in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $90,623,067, up 24.55% ($17,860,095) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade surplus with Norway in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $99,923,786, a 4.19% decrease ($4,374,662) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Norway was Russia’s 61st largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 64th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.1819% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1758% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Norway was Russia’s 56th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 60th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.2065% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1990% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Norway was Russia’s 62nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 65th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.1455% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1369% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 41.98% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (29.95% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 31.14% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (37.18% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.18% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (19.12% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.91% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (5.65% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.80% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (2.44% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.57% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (2.41% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $4,815,050;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $3,326,620;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $2,928,338;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,835,751;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,687,832;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $1,615,635;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $3,717,250;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $2,728,455;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $2,597,234;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $1,141,386.
