Russia’s Trade with Sweden

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Sweden was $731,373,568, down 1.40% ($10,421,114) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 1st quarter of 2021 were $145,201,957, down 51.02% ($151,234,841) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Sweden in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $586,171,611, up 31.62% ($140,813,727) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sweden in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $440,969,654, a 196.11% increase ($292,048,568) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Sweden was Russia’s 37th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 39th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.4732% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.5219% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Sweden was Russia’s 60th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 46th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.1574% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.3331% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Sweden was Russia’s 22nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 25th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.9409% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.8378% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Sweden

The major share of Russian exports to Sweden in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 35.67% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (48.15% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 33.29% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (34.31% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.06% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (4.63% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.55% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (4.56% in the 1st quarter of 2020);

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $590,111;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $571,587;
  • Other made up textile articles; sets; worn clothing and worn textile articles; rags (HS code 63) - an increase of $450,448.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 1st quarter of 2021 over the 1st quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:
