Russia’s Trade with the US

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with the US totaled $7,012,683,837, up 6.01% ($397,739,543) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to the US in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $3,344,874,573, up 0.82% ($27,332,057) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from the US in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $3,667,809,264, up 11.23% ($370,407,486) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade balance with the US went from a surplus of $20,140,738 in the 1st quarter of 2020, to a deficit of $322,934,691 in the 1st quarter of 2021.

The US was Russia’s 5th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 4th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 4.5373% of Russia’s total trade (down from 4.6538% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The US was Russia’s 8th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 3.6256% of Russia’s total exports (down from 3.7284% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

The US was Russia’s 4th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 3rd in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 5.8875% of Russia’s total imports (down from 6.2030% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to the US

The major share of Russian exports to the US in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 43.50% of Russia’s total exports to the US (57.05% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 29.73% of Russia’s total exports to the US (18.97% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.06% of Russia’s total exports to the US (7.35% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.48% of Russia’s total exports to the US (10.48% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.33% of Russia’s total exports to the US (1.93% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.02% of Russia’s total exports to the US (1.52% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.82% of Russia’s total imports from the US (15.84% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.35% of Russia’s total imports from the US (3.93% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
