Russia’s Trade with the US

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with the US totaled $9,120,857,994, up 58.72% ($3,374,388,645) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to the US in the 2nd quarter of 2021 totaled $4,443,155,876, up 108.22% ($2,309,288,542) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from the US in the 2nd quarter of 2021 totaled $4,677,702,118, up 29.48% ($1,065,100,103) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade deficit with the US in the 2nd quarter of 2021 was $234,546,242, a 84.14% decrease ($1,244,188,439) over the 2nd quarter of 2020.

The US was Russia’s 5th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (up from 6th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 4.8196% of Russia’s total trade (up from 4.7100% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

The US was Russia’s 9th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (up from 10th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 3.8627% of Russia’s total exports (up from 3.0519% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

The US was Russia’s 3rd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 6.3026% of Russia’s total imports (down from 6.9355% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to the US

The major share of Russian exports to the US in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 55.34% of Russia’s total exports to the US (44.17% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.81% of Russia’s total exports to the US (12.62% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.33% of Russia’s total exports to the US (15.83% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 10.19% of Russia’s total exports to the US (17.67% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.99% of Russia’s total exports to the US (2.65% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.57% of Russia’s total exports to the US (2.66% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
