Russia’s Trade with Costa Rica

In the 3rd quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Costa Rica totaled $34,225,043, up 44.73% ($10,576,969) from the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2021 totaled $15,271,977, up 119.20% ($8,304,804) from the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2021 totaled $18,953,066, up 13.62% ($2,272,165) from the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade deficit with Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2021 was $3,681,089, a 62.10% decrease ($6,032,639) over the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Costa Rica was Russia’s 123rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2021 (down from 116th in the 3rd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0164% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0173% in the 3rd quarter of 2020).

Costa Rica was Russia’s 124th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2021 (up from 130th in the 3rd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0114% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0089% in the 3rd quarter of 2020).

Costa Rica was Russia’s 92nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2021 (up from 93rd in the 3rd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0252% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0288% in the 3rd quarter of 2020).

The major share of Russian exports to Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2021 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 14.49% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (5.93% in the 3rd quarter of 2020);

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $238,840;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $217,406;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $144,212;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $107,178;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $53,728.

Russia’s Imports from Costa Rica

The major share of Russian imports from Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2021 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 50.69% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (46.12% in the 3rd quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 43.71% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (50.33% in the 3rd quarter of 2020);
